Pop stars Beyonce and Shakira hung on to the top spot in the British singles charts Sunday, despite a massive jump in the rankings for Indie rock group the Manic Street Preachers.
It marked the third consecutive week the duo's song "Beautiful Liar" topped the singles charts.The Manic Street Preachers gave them a run for their money, though, surging 25 places to rise to the second spot in the charts with their song "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough."
Their singles chart success comes ahead of the launch of their eighth album "Send Away The Tigers," which goes on sale Monday.
Rounding out the top five were "Cupid's Chokehold" by Gym Class Heroes, "Give It To Me" by Timbaland, Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, and "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne.
Arctic Monkeys topped the album charts with "Favourite Worst Nightmare."

'Spider-Man 3' breaks US box office records
"Spider-Man 3" swooped to the top of the North American box office with the superhero's latest adventure, figures showed Sunday, netting a record-smashing 148 million dollars on its opening weekend.
The figures released by box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations showed the mutant hero blasting the blockbuster season off to a super-high earning start.Its takings dwarfed the previous record, set last year by Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which took 135.6 million in its first three days, according to the movie industry newspaper Variety.
The newspaper also calculated the single-day takings for "Spider-Man 3" on Friday at 59 million, beating the "Pirates" record of 55.8 million in July 2006.
Among the other top grossing movies in North America this weekend, "Spider-Man 3" eclipsed the 5.7 million for teen thriller "Disturbia" which it knocked into second place after three weeks at the top.
The latest instalment in the fantasy action series sees Tobey Maguire as the web-shooting hero battle his arch-foe the Green Goblin while juggling a rival love interest to his high school sweetheart Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst).
Clad in a new-look black spider suit -- the result of tainting by a malignant glob of protoplasm from outer space -- he also faces high-octane combat with new villains, Venom and Sandman.
"Fracture," a legal police drama starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling, rose to third place with takings of 3.5 million dollars, followed by another teen thriller, "The Invisible," with 3.125 million.

British rocker Doherty arrested for drugs
British rock star Pete Doherty, partner of supermodel Kate Moss, was arrested on Saturday night on suspicion of possessing "Class A" banned drugs, The Sun tabloid reported.
Though a police spokesman declined to confirm whether Doherty specifically was arrested, he said: "At 2200 hours (2100 GMT) on the 5th (of May), police stopped a vehicle on Kensington High Street."A 28-year-old male driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. He was taken to a west London police station, and later bailed to return in June pending further inquiries."
According to The Sun, Doherty was held in the police station overnight.
The troubled Babyshambles frontman, 28, has repeatedly sought treatment for drug addiction in countries including Britain, France and Thailand.
In December he was fined 770 pounds (1,129 euros, 1,536 dollars) and banned from driving for four months for possessing illegal drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin.

Ashlee Simpson promotes boyfriend Pete Wentz club for 'loser friends'
Fall Out Boy lead singer Pete Wentz, Gym Class Heroes lead Travis McCoy and Yellow Fever clothing designer Jamison Ernest now together own a place where they say "all our loser friends can hang out" - Angels & Kings on East 11th Street in New York.
Wentz told Page Six he wanted a place for his friends to kick back without being hassled by strict door policies and pretentious, uptight atmosphere.
"It's different when you want to bring your friends to a place . . . and maybe we're just not cool enough to get in. We really just want someplace where we can hang out and be ourselves."
Ernest cheekily added his idea of a club was "a place that anyone can go and have sex in the bathroom and not get in trouble."
It is likely Ashlee Simpson is not aware of his wicked intent.

Beyonce pulls album due to lawsuit
Pop singer Beyonce has been forced to delete a special version of her current album, "B'Day - Deluxe Edition" following legal problems.
The former Destiny's Child singer is in the process of being sued by singer Des'Ree following allegations that she did not get permission to cover a song called "I'm Kissing You" on B Day - Deluxe Edition.
Allegedly a deal to use the song was not finalized, but Beyonce went ahead to re-record the song.
According to MTV, the singer has agreed that her record company would engage in no further distribution of the album or video anthology until at least a preliminary injunction hearing on May 4.
Earlier this year, Beyonce told MTV that the song in question wasn't initially intended for the album.
"It was one of my all-time favorite songs. So I just did it for myself -- a lot of songs, I do like that -- and I let people hear it and they were like, 'You are crazy, you have to put it on the album.' So I did. It was a last-minute decision," TMZ quoted Beyonce, as saying.

It seems that actress Kirsten Dunst sneaked out of Spiderman-3 screening in Astoria mid way citing sickness to celebrate her birthday at West Village on May 1.
A source said that the actress had told everyone she was leaving because she was unwell, but she actually went for her birthday celebrations.
"She told everyone she was sick and left right after the red carpet. But really she went to her birthday party," the New York Post quoted the source, as saying.
However, the nosey paparazzi did not fail to notice the actress and rounded her up at Beatrice Inn.
The photogs took photos of her feet that were covered with red rashes.

Brad Pitt is looking for a butt double
He’s posed in the buff for Playgirl magazine, and showed off his booty twice before on film, but Brad Pitt has suddenly turned shy of baring his butt for a new movie, and is now demanding a ‘bottom double’.
It seems that the actor is so concerned about doing nude scenes in his new flick, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, that he’s told movie bosses to look for someone to bare their bottom for him.
A source revealed that producers of the movie were now on a lookout for a person whose bottom was a dead-ringer for Brad’s.
“Casting notices have been put out looking for suitable rears,” The Sun quoted the source, as saying.
As for why Pitt, regularly voted the World’s Sexiest Man, has turned shy, well speculation is rife that lady love Angelina Jolie might have something to do with his decision.
“Maybe Brad’s partner Angelina Jolie doesn’t want him stripping off for anyone else these days,” the source added.
The actor has previously showed off his bare bottom in Thelma and Louise in 1991 and 2004 blockbuster Troy.
The Mr and Mrs Smith star also appeared nude for Playgirl magazine in 1997.

If there’s one woman in the world that Pamela Anderson would love to see shed all her clothes, it would be Scarlett Johansson.
The former Baywatch babe is asking Johansson to strip off for famous men’s mag Playboy.
Pammie, who has posed for the magazine a record 12 times, believes that the Lost in Translation star has what it takes to be Hugh Hefner’s latest golden girl.
However, Anderson doesn’t quite believe that Johansson would be so open to the idea of posing for Playboy, for it might prove to be detrimental for her career.
"Scarlett Johansson would definitely be my No1 choice. But I doubt she would agree to do it," The Sun quoted her, as telling OK! magazine.

'Sexy' tag is costing Jessica Biel the roles she wants
There are times when Jessica Biel rues being one of the sexiest people in world, because her looks mean that she doesn't always get the parts she wants.
The actress, named Esquire's "Sexiest Woman Alive" in 2005, reveals to the June issue of Elle magazine that the label has sometimes proved to be a bane for her.
"[One director told me,] 'I'm not looking for the sexiest woman; I'm looking for the girl next door,'" People magazine quoted her, as telling the magazine.
"Parts I really want aren't going to me. Like The Other Boleyn Girl with Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman. I don't want to say that there's nothing I love that I can't have. But there's still the occasional script that the director doesn't want to see you for. They want that top tier of girls," Biel insists.
Biel, whose films include the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2004's Blade: Trinity and 2005's Stealth, can now be seen on the big screen opposite Nicolas Cage in the thriller Next.
The movie has already replaced John Travolta's comedy Wild Hogs, to take the top spot at the UK box office.
In Next, Cage plays the role Cris Johnson, a man born with a unique ability to see up to two minutes into his own future.

'Justin Timberlake wants to duet with me', says Paris Hilton
Socialite Paris Hilton has revealed that popstar Justin Timberlake wants to record a duet with her.
The hotel heiress, has struck up a friendship with the 'SexyBack' singer, the ex-boyfriend of Paris' former friend Britney Spears and claims he is working on a track for the pair.
"I think we blend well and he says he has something in mind for both of us. I can't wait," The Sun quoted Hilton, as saying.
Meanwhile Timberlake is planning to step away from his solo career to write country and hip hop songs for other artists.
The SexyBack singer said in a US interview that he wants to take a new direction and would love to get back to his Tennessee roots.
"I've had a good share of the spotlight. I don't feel like I need too much of it right now. I want to write country music, because that's where I grew up - Tennessee," Timberlake said.

The Queen, K-Fed and Birkhead to make Kentucky Derby an extra special affair
This year's Kentucky Derby's guest list has never been as star studded in its 133-year history, British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, Kevin Federline and Larry Birkhead all putting in an appearance.
Kevin Federline is very excited that he has received the invitation for the world's pre-eminent horse race.
"I am so excited to attend the Kentucky Derby this year and am honored that the Barnstable Brown Family personally invited me," People quoted Federline," as saying.
"I've wanted to go for the past few years, so I am taking the opportunity and going to enjoy attending the race, going to the black tie gala's and enjoying the whole experience. It's such a great tradition, and I'm glad I can be a part of it!" Federline added.

The proceeds from their charity evening will go for the benefit of diabetes research in honor of Barnstable Brown's husband, David who died of the disease in 2003.

After discussing their reunion plans at David Beckham's birthday bash, Spice Girls Geri Halliwell and Mel B again met over a boozy night out to think over the prospect.

Prince Harry's run in with ranting drunken thug
British royal Prince Harry was verbally assaulted by a fierce drunk during a night out with girlfriend Chelsy Davy.
The prince and Chelsy Davy were at London's Azteca Latin Lounge when an intoxicated man bombarded Harry with verbal abuse on May 2.
According to witnesses the man shouted, “I [bleep]ing hate the Royal family. Who do you think you are in here? Why don’t you p*** off to Iraq and get yourself killed, you ginger t***.”
The young royal’s protection officers stepped in and removed the drunken thug from the upmarket cocktail bar.
“This guy came out of nowhere and just started hurling abuse at Prince Harry. There didn’t seem to be any reason for it. You could see the guy had clearly had a lot to drink,” The Sun quoted a witness, as saying.
“Harry’s reaction was one of shock. He stood facing the guy — and then the chap lunged at Harry as if he was trying to punch him. That was when his bodyguards intervened. It could have got ugly but Harry kept his temper and let it sort itself out,” the witness added.
A spokesman for Clarence House said that the verbal rant was not followed by any physical attack.
“An individual lunged at Prince Harry but there was no physical contact. There was no scuffle,” the spokesman said.
The 22-year-old prince and Chelsy were enjoying the little time they have left together before Harry’s Iraq deployment.

Former Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney has sparked off rumors of romancing sexy opera star Natasha Marsh.
Sixty-four-year-old McCartney was spotted at the Classical Brit Awards this week admiring 31-year-old Marsh, who bears a striking resemblance to his estranged wife Heather Mills.
He was overheard telling a friend "she is very sexy", and later arranged a date with the blonde singer.
"Macca's jaw hit the floor when Natasha walked past in her slinky dress. He sort of nodded as if to show his approval and whispered to his friend that she was very sexy. He couldn't take his eyes off her and was smiling when she went up to perform. He looked smitten," The Mirror quoted a source, as saying.
Later, Marsh's spokeswoman also confirmed the meeting between the two, and said that McCartney was very impressed by Natasha.
"Sir Paul asked to be introduced to Natasha afterwards, he was very impressed by her. They met in the dressing room area and talked for ages. He took away a copy of her album, Amour," the spokeswoman said.

'Lost' star Michelle Rodriguez is upset that lesbian magazine, Curve, used her face on their cover without her consent.
Rodriguez said that rumors of her homosexuality might have made the publication use her image.
“As far as rumors go of me coming out, I guess Curve magazine took it upon themselves to out me on the premise of their own suspicions,” People Magazine quoted her, as saying
Speaking about the episode on her website, the actress insisted that she isn’t feeling insulted, and that she is not going to shun the lesbian following she has got.
"Whatever, I'm not insulted, I have a big lesbian following, and for whatever reasons they show me love. I'm never going to shun, disrespect or neglect anybody who shows me genuine non-psychotic love,” she said.
However, she added that categorizing someone in the film business definitely affects the person
"I will say this: To put words in someone's mouth and place people in categories affects them for sure, especially in this business," she added.
Rodriguez also said that she doesn’t understand why Curve decided to use her face on the cover without her consent
"I don't know what the intent behind the Curve magazine cover was. I wasn't informed of it, I had no idea they were planning on using my image to sell magazines." she wrote.
The actress added that her sexuality is nobody’s business, and that if she had to prove anything to people, she would have released a sex video long ago.
“If I wanted people to know what I do with my vagina I would have released a sex video a long time ago. Yet I haven't done that,” she said.

Paris Hilton sentenced to 45 days jail!
The socialite who arrived 18 minutes late for her court appearance in Los Angeles was sent to jail for probation violation and driving on a suspended license.
Her sentence will begin on 5th June at the Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF).
Despite having arrived late to the courrooom Hilton was seen quickly touching up her makeup as she stepped in.
During the hearing, she explained her reasons for driving twice on a suspended license using an uncharacteristically somber monotone, reports TMZ.
She explained that her publicist Elliot Mintz told her that her driving license was still valid.
However, the Californian Highway Patrol informed the judge they had personally told Paris about the suspension.
Moments before the judgement was handed down a tearful Paris pleaded with the judge, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
The judge told Paris that he did not believe she was unaware of her license suspension. He pointed out that there was paperwork in her car stating that her license was suspended!
The legal woes of the socialite started when in September 2006 she pleaded no contest in a DUI case and her license was suspended for 90 days
In February, the 26-year-old was stopped at Sunset Boulevard when police spotted her driving down in her car without headlights on.
The police later found that she was driving on a suspended license, violating terms of probation.
Also, Hilton hadn't enrolled in an alcohol education program, within 3 weeks of the order.

Busta Rhymes Released From Jail On DWI Charge
Busta Rhymes has been released on $7,500 bail, after being arraigned earlier in the day, according to officials. Representatives for Rhymes told AllHipHop.com that the rapper was formally charged with misdemeanor DWI and Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI), which is a violation, not a criminal offense.
"According to the complaint, he blew a .067 BAC at the station [and] .08 BAC is legally drunk in New York," Rhymes' attorney Scott Leemon told AllHipHop.com. "His license was not suspended and he was immediately released on an agreed upon bail of $7,500 cash."
The rapper is expected to appear in court again Tuesday May 8 to answer the DWI charges.
Rhymes, 34, will also begin trial stemming from another assault case from 2006.
He was arrested early today (May 3), after police stopped his Yukon Denali on 51st Street and 11th Avenue in Manhattan.
The officers charged that the tint on the SUV windows was too dark. The police also claimed they smelled alcohol on the rapper's breath and apprehended him.
He was booked at the 28th St. precinct in New York.
Rhymes, born Trevor Smith, was also arrested on Feb. 22 for driving in Manhattan for driving with a suspended license.

Don Imus to Sue CBS Radio for $120 Million
Former Westwood syndicated air talent and WFAN-AM/New York morning man Don Imus is going to sue CBS for $120 million, according to a draft copy of the complaint obtained by ABC News' Law & Justice Unit. The draft of suit, expected to be filed next week, says that the network expected him to be controversial and irreverent under the terms of his contract. And it claims Imus's show was on a 5-second delay that allowed the network to censor him if they wanted. The draft points out that Imus wasn't fired for two weeks after the remarks were made, and that he did not violate FCC rules when he made racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team. Meanwhile, four former FCC commissioners contacted by ABC News say they do not believe that the speech was actionable under current federal guidelines.
In a statement released by CBS in response to news stories about the impending lawsuit, CBS said that "We terminated Mr. Imus for cause. Based on the comments in question and relevant contract terms, we believe that the termination was appropriate and CBS would expect to prevail in any attempt by Mr. Imus to recover money for his actions."
The network is expected to rely on a clause in the radio talk show host's contract that says he can be terminated for 'just cause' if CBS determines that he used "distasteful or offensive words or phrases, the broadcast of which [CBS] believes would not be in the public interest or may jeopardize [the network's] Federal license to operate..."
But Imus has hired Martin Garbus, a New York-based attorney and a well-known First Amendment lawyer, who has successfully defended hundreds of high profile cases, said CBS still breached Imus' contract when the company fired him. He cited a section of his client's contract today that says Imus' "services to be rendered & are of a unique, extraordinary, irreverent, intellectual, topical, controversial and personal character & and & these components are desired by company and are consistent with company rules and policies."
While the lawsuit focuses on the contract, hovering above the dispute is the question of whether Imus's comments put the network in jeopardy with the FCC gotten exactly what it had bargained for. "The issue is one more of extremely poor judgment than it is an FCC issue," said former commissioner Harold Furtchgott-Roth. "That's what Imus' schtick has been for years."
Former FCC commissioner Kathleen Abernathy said Imus' comments were "definitely in bad taste and inappropriate language." "But in order to prohibit such language, it has to rise to the level of being legally profane, and I do not think that it rises to that level because of our legal history of protecting free speech," she added.
Imus' contract also stipulated that he must be given a warning before being fired for stepping over the line. Garbus says Imus wasn't warned. (05-04-07)
